I recently confirmed to Parliament that the number of violent incidents when the offender was perceived to be under the influence of alcohol has fallen by 44% over the last decade, from 999,000 incidents in 2007/08 to 561,000 incidents in 2017/18. The police and other local agencies have been doing an excellent job of reducing and preventing alcohol related crime.But we must go further.
As the Policing, Crime and Justice Minister, I’ll be bringing Sobriety Tags into law after my 10 year campaign for their use, giving the police a vital tool to cut those numbers further and make our streets safer.
