Sir George Young MP and Kit Malthouse, Conservative candidate for North West Hants dropped in at the Carers Rights Day at the Guildhall in Andover this week organised by the Princess Royal Trust for carers in Hampshire.
Carers Rights Day is a national event that seeks to raise awareness about the information, advice and practical support available for carers. On Carers Rights Day local organisations join in to encourage carers to get the advice and information that they need to make sure they can access the help and support they are entitled to. This includes information on financial support, practical support, breaks from caring and workplace rights for those juggling work and care.
Diverse local organisations from Neighbourcare and the Parkinson Society to Andover Young Carers had stall in the Guildhall where they could advise carers and the general public what help and support is on offer.
Sir George Young said: “Over £1 billion in support payment to carers goes unclaimed every year and so it is obvious that not all of them are aware of what they are due, and what other help and support is available for them. That is why this event aimed at giving them better information is so important.”
