Kit Malthouse MP to host Disability Employment Conference at Enham Trust

Kit Malthouse MP will hold the first Disability Confident Conference at leading Hampshire-based disability charity, Enham Trust on the 23rd March. Local businesses will be joined by special guest Sarah Newton, Minister of State for Disabled People, Work and Health, one of Kit’s ministerial colleagues in the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

Recognising Enham Trust’s achievement in obtaining Disability Confident Leader status under the DWP Disability Confident scheme last year, the event will be open to employers and businesses in the Hampshire area. It will provide the opportunity to find out about the Disability Confident scheme which aims to challenge negative attitudes towards employing disabled people, promote equal employment opportunities and understand how being disability confident can change attitudes for the better.

Kit Malthouse MP said:

“Helping companies hire people living with disabilities is a great win-win, unlocking hitherto underused talent and giving people the chance to thrive and fulfil their potential. I urge as many businesses to come along as possible.”

Heath Gunn, CEO of Enham Trust, remarks of the event:

“This event demonstrates how as a Trust we are committed to supporting people living with a disability to gain employment, with us as an organisation and within in the local area.”

“We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Sarah Newton and Kit Malthouse for their support at our event and we hope many local companies will join us to find out how they can get involved in this fantastic initiative. We are excited to extend our ongoing work with businesses to support and employ more disabled people’’

The event will be held on Friday 23rd March 10am-12pm. Booking is essential for this event, so to secure your place please contact Kit Malthouse’s office on Kit.Malthouse.MP@Parliament.uk.

In anticipation of the event, Sarah Newton MP said:

“Signing up to the Disability Confident scheme sends a powerful message to potential employees that they will get the support they need to thrive in the workplace.

“I want to congratulate Enham Trust for taking steps to create more Disability Confident employers in the Hampshire area. By bringing together local businesses and people, employers can ensure they don’t miss out on some of the best talent in their community.”
