Thanks to a swell of local action, residents in the north of the constituency will continue to be able to use the Newtown Road Recycling Centre, which is just over the border in Berkshire. A year-long extension to the existing permit scheme has been implemented to bide time for a long-term solution to be sought. The permit scheme will be in place until 31 July 2021 and BDBC residents can continue to use their current permits (dated 2017).

Over the last few weeks I have been in close contact with Cllr Ken Rhatigan, Leader of Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, local councillors, county councillors including Cllr Rob Humby, Executive Member for Environment and Transport and Laura Farris, MP for Newbury, to find a solution and I would like to thank everyone involved for their hard work and collaborative approach.
