On Friday evening, I attended an informative and insightful presentation by Anna and Zara former pupils of Testbourne Community School on climate change and the environment and what adjustments we can all make in our lives to fight it.
They put some tough questions to me but I was pleased to explain the UK has become the first major economy in the world to pass laws to end its contribution to global warming with a target requiring it to bring all greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050 and that the UK has cut its emissions faster than any other G7 nation, having 1500 coal free hours so far this year.
We’re also phasing out coal power entirely and creating hundreds of thousands of low carbon jobs all while coordinating international climate action through the UN.
There’s always more to do, but we are determined to leave the environment in a better state than we found it.
