It was a pleasure to join Newbury MP Richard Benyon for the Greenham: 100 years of War and Peace events. It is now 20 years since the Ministry of Defence returned RAF Greenham Common to local people and the formation of the Greenham Trust. Opened in 1942, it was used by both the Royal Air Force and United States Army Air Forces during the Second World War and then the United States Air Force during the Cold War, sparking the setup of Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp in 1981 to protest against the use of the base for US nuclear weapons.
