The Andover Choral Society is offering an evocative programme of choral music in collaboration with the Westminster Chamber Orchestra. On Saturday 6th May at 7:30pm they’re to perform Vaughn Williams’ In Windsor Forest, Dyson’s In Honour of the City and Finzi’s Eclogue for Piano & Strings at St Mary’s Church.
Andover has a long history of choral singing. The original Andover Choral Society was formed in 1866 to perform Handel’s Messiah. Local newspaper archives show details of a concert in 1887 at which Haydn’s Creation was performed.
The present Andover Choral Society was inaugurated in 1971 to promote choral singing for all and I’m proud to be president. At least two concerts a year are presented in St Mary’s Church. Rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings in Bridge Street Methodist Church, and the society is always happy to welcome new members.
