Last week my colleagues and I met with Highways England to discuss the dangerous A34.
The record speaks for itself and the road is clearly not fit for purpose. There have been more than 50 accidents resulting in death or serious injury in the last five years and the entire carriageway has had to be closed 56 times.
Back in March I urged the Transport Minister to look at the junction of the A303 and A34 as a priority for investment in safety, but heartbreakingly, the most recent accident there claimed the lives of four people, three of whom were children. The fact that it happened in my constituency only heightens my worry. Everyone involved can see that action is overdue.
