The morning of 8th May 2015 is one I will remember forever. When the Returning Officer announced that 32,052 people in North West Hampshire had voted for me, I was overwhelmed. It was an enormous show of confidence and I am extremely grateful to everyone in the constituency for their support. I would also like to thank the staff who worked in the many polling stations large and small for their diligence and care, and those who stayed up all night with us counting. They helped make it quite a night for me, and of course for the country as a whole.
I am also very grateful to the people of Andover, Whitchurch, Overton, Tadley and the rest of North West Hampshire for making me and my family feel so welcome. Campaigning here was a real pleasure even with the very testing questions on the doorstep and the odd terrier determined to teach me a lesson!
The last couple of weeks have been a challenging period as I pushed to get my offices in Andover and Westminster up and running really fast. As soon as the result was announced the emails and letters started to arrive from constituents with pressing issues and so I needed to get up to speed quickly. I am pleased to say that I now have a team in place, and an office, so normal service can be resumed. If you need my help please feel free to email me at kit.malthouse.mp@parliament.uk or write to 2 Church Close, Andover SP10 1DP.
So thank you everyone for your kindness and trust. Over the next five years I will do my best to be an MP you can be proud of, working with a great team of local councillors to serve all constituents to the best of my ability.
