Kit Malthouse welcomes significant progress on superfast broadband in NW Hants

Conservative candidate for North West Hants, Kit Malthouse, dropped in at Penton Mewsey this week to meet the locals and celebrate the village being the latest in the area to get access to superfast broadband. After a busy public “meet and greet” in the White Hart, Kit met with Paul Fraser, chairman of the parish council and saw for himself this vital connection for the village.

His visit came as the Conservatives published their manifesto commitment to complete the rollout of super fast broadband to 95% of the country by 2017. In addition they are now committing to make sure no one is left behind by subsidising the cost of installing super fast satellite broadband to the very hardest to reach areas.

Kit Malthouse said “Penton Mewsey has gained so much more than a big green box at the end of the street – they now have a fast connection to the online world of information and crucially business opportunities. Over the last five years, huge progress has been made connecting up village after village in North West Hants but there is more to be done.

Now we need to complete the task, even in the remotest spots, and then aim for ultra fast broadband as soon as practically possible. If I’m elected I will press the government to make superfast broadband access mandatory in all new developments, just like water and power, and bring forward the subsidy for satellite as quickly as possible.”
