The sad death of a young man whose body was found at Anton Lakes, Andover last night is a shock to everyone and a terrible tragedy for his family. They are in my thoughts as they grieve for him and they have my deepest sympathy.
I have spoken to the Chief Inspector Kory Thorne of Test Valley District Police and been briefed on the circumstances, which are not being treated as suspicious. We will meet again on Friday.
There will of course be an inquest, which will determine the circumstances of death, and we must all wait, and respect the privacy of his family, before we come to any conclusions about what work we need to do as a community to try and avert such tragedies in the future.
The health and well being of our young people is of vital importance and we must be constantly working to ensure they have the facilities and support they need.
