Police National Memorial

I was honoured to attend the inauguration of the Police Memorial at the national Arboretum in Staffordshire. This monument to those who have falled in the line of duty has now taken it’s place alongside the many others in that extraordinary place. If you haven’t been, I would recommend a visit, where you can pay your respects to the many people who have sacrificed their lives for our safety and security.

The memorial symbolises a half open door, reminding us that police officers never know what they will find behind the many doors they visit. Made from solid brass, when the sun strikes it, the shadows of the leaf cut outs fall on the stone beyond.

The whole day, with HRH the Prince of Wales and the Prime Minister in attendance, was a lovely event and a tribute to the team who raised the money and made the thing happen, all led by my old friend, Sir Hugh Orde.
