Sussex Police are some of the finest officers I have had the pleasure of meeting. Professional, organised and capable they understand the need for community policing and go above and beyond to deliver it. It was a delight to speak at the launch of our campaign to recruit 20,000 more police officers and boost the protections our officers have under law. Launching the recruitment campaign in Sussex couldn’t have been more apt as they’ve already boosted their recruitment to the highest level in a decade and I was able to meet 72 of the trainee PCs and 18 of the PCSOs.
I also got a look at one of their hydrogen cars – I campaigned for the introduction of these when I was Deputy Mayor for Business and Enterprise in London so this was a blast from the past for sure.
