Westminster Attack

Wednesday’s was a wicked act and everyone’s thoughts are with the 4 victims, their loved ones, and the people in a critical condition in hospital.

All of us in Parliament are grateful for the work of the police, security services and paramedics. Their courage, skill and speed was humbling and they acted bravely.

The death of PC Keith Palmer was a dreadful reminder that it is police officers who always run toward gunfire. He died protecting Parliament and saved lives.

While police investigated I was locked in the House of Commons Chamber with other MPs and we were relieved to hear that our teams were safe. Everyone on the Parliamentary estate was kept on site well into the evening and remained calm, awaiting news.

Today, after the minute’s silence and the statement from the Prime Minister, the House continued its scheduled business. Our work representing our constituents and tending the laws for a free, democratic and prosperous United Kingdom goes on.
