North West Hampshire’s Jane Austen welcomed onto £10 note

JaneAusten£10

Charles Darwin had a sound quarter century innings on the £10 note illuminating our pride that a British scientist expanded humankind’s understanding of nature more than ever before. Now though, I’m thrilled that the Bank of England has replaced him with another from our pantheon of greats: Jane Austen. Her wit, enduring portrait of human nature and universal appeal mark her as one of the world’s greatest literary figures who, to my delight, hailed from Steventon in my North West Hampshire constituency. I look forward to September when the new notes enter circulation.
